Letters from Classmates 2009

Dear Classmates

I regret that I won't make it to this year's reunion (again) due to business and family matters. Nancy and I have two rental properties and five grandchildren that keep us busy, and the first week of the month is our busiest with the rental property business. Our oldest grandchild is 11 and the youngest is 5 months. I retired from the Army in 2006 and from the U.S. District Court last October but it seems I'm busier than ever. Our grown children live in Kansas, North Carolina, and one near us in the Syracuse, NY area. We still have two at home, our youngest son age 16, and another son with special needs who will be 22 in August. Physically he is fine and he can function somewhat on his own but his OCD limits his social skills. We are working with a couple of social service providers to help him get employment and into an independent living situation. Nancy and I are active in the music program at our parish church singing in the choir. I volunteer when I can at the Syracuse VA Medical Center, often playing the piano for the veterans in recreation therapy.

I want to thank everyone for your e-mails and prayers while I was deployed to Iraq in 2003-2004. It was great to re-connect with you. I made it home safe and unharmed. I looked at the photos from past reunions on the website and recognize very few people anymore. I don't even recognize myself sometimes. I know I should get out there again and get reacquainted. My thoughts will be with you on August 8-9. I've attached a photo of Nancy and I at our daughter's wedding in June 2007.

Your classmate, Terry Mitchell

Hi Gerrie,

I hope this note finds you and your family well.

Thank you for another invitation to the SWHS 45th reunion which begins today. We held out hope until the last minute that our schedules would allow us to attend the reunion this year. Unfortunately things didn't work out for us. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you for a safe and fun filled weekend. Although my family left Ohio at the beginning of my Sophomore year (in 1961), I spent the first fifteen years of my life in Fostoria and I have many fond memories of friends and family members left behind.

As you might recall, I attended the 40th reunion with you all in 2004 shortly after my wife of 32.5 years lost her battle to Kidney Cancer. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with you all during that weekend. In late 2005 I met Diana (from Denver, CO) who had also lost her spouse to cancer. We fell in love and were married in 2006. At the same time I sold my business in Indianapolis, Diana sold Amici's (an Italian restaurant in Denver) and I relocated to Denver. We began our retirement by remodeling our home in Denver and by closing on a new winter home in Bonita Springs, FL. I am attaching a few pictures taken in 2006. The color pictures were taken in February 2006. The black and white photo was taken aboard a cruise ship while on our honeymoon in Europe in August 2006. Between us Diana and I have nine children and sixteen grandchildren. As you might imagine, they keep us very busy.

If any of you ever find yourself in Southwest Florida (December through May) or in the Denver area (June through November), we would love to spend some time with you. Our phone number in Bonita Springs, FL is (see below) and our phone number in Thornton, CO (a Denver suburb) is (see below). My cell phone number is (see below).

I look forward to visiting the SWHS '64 website and viewing all of the new pictures as well as reading all of .. the news from the 2009 reunion. I know that Mike Marley passed away this year. Would it be possible for you to post any other obituaries from the class of 1964 on the website? Thank you for your help and please retain my E Mail address for future possible events.

Take care and again.....Have a great time this weekend!

Jerry (Magers)
